Train Transfers To and From Nice Airport

Trains from Nice Airport run from a small railway station located within 10 minutes walking distance of the airport. Nice St Augustin is a small train station from which TER train services link the railway station eastwards to central Nice, Monaco and the Italian border stations at Ventimiglia.

To the west Nice St Augustin trains link to the cities of Cannes and Antibes. Direct trains from London or Paris for example operate via the SNCF train network and the main train stations in the city of Nice.

Direct TGV trains will reach Paris in just 6 hours and start at the main train station in Nice Ville in the city center. Nice is also connected to the Trenitalia train network in Italy with direct train connections between Nice and Venice, Rome, Genoa and Milan among others.

Going to the coastal towns like Cannes for example is much cheaper on the buses operates on the Lignes d'Azur lines, since a bus ticket will only cost EUR 1.00 to Cannes, while the train ticket for a single journey will cost more than EUR 5.00 per person. The buses are, however, very overcrowded thanks to their cost effectiveness for tourists and commuters. Stopping many times on their way to Cannes, the buses can take as much as 2 hours to arrive at their final destination – a factor that needs to be calculated into the equation, when assessing advantages over disadvantages with regard to train travel in Nice.

Although there are no direct train services from Nice Airport and none are planned either, since a tramway system will eventually connect up to the airport, Nice Airport trains can effectively be boarded by simply hopping on one of the express bus services to the mainline stations in the city. The journey is roughly 30 minutes from Terminal 1 to one of the main stations, from where SNCF trains operate.

Tourists might like to enquire about the charming narrow-gauge railway line Chemin de Fer de Provence, which leaves Nice and crosses through the Var Valley, following the Route Napoleon. The little train takes around 3 hours to reach Digne in Upper Provence and during the summer the last part of the journey is completed with a real steam engine pulling the train.

Trains from Nice Airport – or rather from the main train station Nice Ville – include the high speed the TGV service to Paris which will also stop at Marseille, going slow up to Marseille and then super fast all the way to Paris. The cost of a ticket for a single journey will be around EUR 100.00 per person and a reservation must be made in advance.

There is also a long-distance night train that connects Nice with Moscow, which also stops at Vienna, Warsaw and Minsk. Leaving Moscow every Thursday, the trains arrive two days later in Nice, where passengers will no doubt be in for a temperature shock, given that the south of France is considerably warmer than Moscow, Minsk or Warsaw!

For anyone wishing to spend a little money on shopping while in Nice, there are also the regional trains that connect to Ventimiglia on the Italian border, where shopping can be considerably cheaper than in Nice. The Nice Airport buses connect to the Nice Gare Ville train station, form where the trains run to Ventimiglia. The Italian town is host to a giant open market held every Friday.
